Fencing Trailer for Mario and Sonic at the Olympics for the Wii

We found a new trailer for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. This video shows off the fencing event, which will have you waving the Wii-mote around like you’re playing swordfighting in the back yard.  There’s no FIE gear or even fencing masks on the characters, but also nobody gets their eye poked out.

Rapiers for Halloween

Over the next week I’m betting that I get a couple of orders for overnight shipping of a practice foil to help complete the perfect fencing halloween costume.  It happens every year.

But, why not pick up a rapier - something that looks a bit more like what Zorro or The Man in Black (Princess Bride) would have used?  The rapier will look a bit cooler than a typical practice foil, but the practice foil is also a lot less expensive.

Blue hair anyone?

I flew all the way to Russia…

Here’s a great post by Bill Ward, who is blogging for FencingPictures over at the World Championships:

I Flew All the Way to Russia…

…and all I got to fence was another American!  That had to be running through the minds of Cody Mattern and Benjamin Ungar today when they had to face off in the round of 64.  Not a nice, easy trip to an NAC in Columbus…this was the World Champs in the land of borscht.
