Paintball and Fencing - Gearing up

I recently went out to play some paintball and it’s a blast!  The paintball fields are starting to get eaten up by metro Atlanta development, though, so I’m not sure how much longer they’ll keep the range going before selling out to some developers.

Getting geared up for paintball makes fencing look cheap!  While you can just come in your jeans and a t-shirt (if you want to get marked up really quick!), you have to have a paintball mask. Just like in fencing, those paintball pellets come at you fast and hard and you don’t want to get hit in the face without some protection.

Sonic and Mario Fencing - Updated Trailer

This updated YouTube video shows someone squaring off with Luigi in a fencing match in Sonic and Mario at the Olympics for the Nintendo Wii.

You can see a little bit of the controls usage, but not enough to figure out what the left hand controls are.

I don’t think she could do a ballestra with those heels and that 3rd main photo down certainly isn’t a regulation fencing mask, but who really cares?

Historical Fencing vs. Kendo

While compiling a list of fencing videos on YouTube to review, I went off track and looked at a few of the SCA and rapier videos.  Most of them are shot outside with poor sound or bad lighting so you can’t really see what is going on.

I found this video matching up Kendo vs. Historical fencing.  The match was indoors, so the sound is decent and the video quality is ok for YouTube.

Nike is starting up their Olympic branding campaign with a series of spots showcasing people breaking out into performing different sports.
