This is an interesting tidbit that came across the Fencing Forums today:
According to today’s Sports Illustrated magazine, the brainiest team in the US Olympic pantheon this quad?
“Fencing. Jason Rogers was a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship. Emily Cross won the world junior title in ‘05 and then passed up senior worlds to finish her sophomore year at Harvard. Sada Jacobson has a history degree from Yale. Tim Morehouse is a Brandeis grad and former teacher. It’s no wonder the siblings on the team, who work in finance in New York City, are named Keeth and Erinn Smart.”

One of our forum members, David Sapery, converted the fencing event schedule to EDT and posted it on the forums. We’ve also put it in our Olympic Fencing coverage here: 2008 Olympic Fencing Schedule.
We’ll be on the lookout for more dates and times for the network and cable broadcasts of the Olympics and I’ll be in Beijing in a little over two weeks to start my on-site coverage of the Olympic Games!
Update: The Nike Store is showing the Nike Ballestra shoes at a price of $220. No additional comment from Nike yet, but this is well above the price range quoted to us ever since the first interview.

The new Nike Ballestra - their fencing shoe - is set to hit the market in August at the start of the Olympic Games. After talk of a range of $100 to $150 for the shoes, and the Adidas shoes being released at $200, Nike went ahead and committed to a $150 street price.
