FWF Foil Point - FIE Approved
The FIE voted that for FIE (World Cup and Grand Prix) events the points must now be “FIE Certified”. In my latest batch of parts from the German manufacturer FWF, I got my first look at the FIE Approved point. It’s the standard German foil point, but now it says “FIE 08″ on it.
Here’s our first pic of it:

Is this something that they plan to phase down the chain until eventually all tips have to be FIE approved?

This is stupid just one more thing for fencers to worry about, its a waste of time and money just to have a name printed on the side.

Is there any difference in these points, other than the FIE mark, in specs, structure, material, function, durability, etc?
Is there any reason to replace our present points, except for FIE World Cups and Grand Prix events?

Sure, just like the S2000 sabre blades.

these are the same as the standard FWF german points, except now they have gone through the new approval process
You’ll notice that we don’t charge any more for these now that they are “approved”. It’s just that these are specifically legal for World Cups.
